More Market News

Arkansas Black Apple Blossoms and Sheep
Recent News had us opening Tower Grove Market on May 2nd. Yesterday, word came down from the City that set us back yet another week. Opening Day now will be May 9th. There was a rumor that the hours would be extended but as of now, it looks like the times will still be the normal from 8-12:30 P.M. Due to the need for Social Distancing, the Market will not be held on the Square in front of the Pavilion as usual for at least the first month. Founder, Patrick sent out this info;
"The market will be laid out differently initially. We will be setting up on the Circle Drive in the center of the park. In the beginning, at least, vendors will be able to keep their vehicles with them and set up their booth adjacent to it. This space offers us ample space for customers to line up, it gives us a surface to draw social distancing guides on, and it has the grassy circle where shoppers can go to limit crowding. The park is currently closed to traffic so the space is available. When the park reopens to vehicle traffic we will move back to our normal location, albeit with ample spacing between vendors. While the park is closed to traffic, this means shoppers will have to walk in. "
He also reminds us; "First, as you know, the market will be different this season. We will be enforcing many new rules to ensure the safety of everyone. For that reason, our first market, which will be on May 9, is going to be limited to our season-long produce farmers only."

The reason for this is to work out the bugs of the new Social Distancing and Health codes way of doing things. Produce vendors are given first week choice for obvious reasons; need for fresh food and to allow the easiest way for that food to be distributed.
Since the Market has been put off for that extra week, we Will DO a drop next week.
On offer; NON GMO chicken and Slow Food Cayuga Duck Eggs, some Greens, Walking Onions, Salsa and Granola. There will be a list of Heirloom tomato plants that we have available for purchase also, Dill and Spearmint. Orders should be in by Saturday night at 8.

We do have a lot more growing, but it's still getting there. French Sorrel has been planted along with 4 types of head lettuces, 2 are Red Oakleaf types, Scallions, Cilantro, more Spinach, Perpetual Spinach, Mesclun Salad Mix, Red Arrow, Chow Chow and China Rose Radish,  2 Basils, Bright Lights Swiss Chard, Beets, Redbor Kale, 3 Carrots, Super Star head onions, Leeks and we already have about 50 tomato plants going in and around the High Tunnel (at least 500 more to come). Those are just the things that we have in the dirt right now. We are planning Parsnips too and here is a list of some of the tomatoes that we will be growing; Pantano Romanesco, Caspian Pink, Lemon Boy, Pork Chop, Mortgage Lifter, Early Girl, Yellow Pear, SunSugar, Blue Beauty, Paul Robeson, Black from Tula, Purple Carbon, Vintage Wine, Violet Jasper, Green Grape, Black Plum, Cherokee Purple, Lime Green Salad, Green Zebra, Azoychka Russian, Pink Girl, Celebrity, Arkansas Traveler, Tommy Toe, Kentucky Beefsteak, and another new one this year, Thornburg's Terra Cotta. Not all of these will be available for purchase as plants.

This Spring has been weird of course because of the health issues but it has been nice having Bill home to help out with things and just of course to spend time together. I hope that you all are taking this enforced time to spend with someone that you love or at the least, doing something that you haven't had time to do for awhile.
To recap, no Market next week but we are doing a Drop. Market starts May 9th.

God's Blessings on you and yours,

TTFN,

Sam and Bill
